June is coming to an end, and still no rains. That’s a scary proposition. For a country still dependent on rain for its agricultural produce, rains play an essential part in the economy.
It hasn’t rained in the city in the past few days and no sign of monsoon. I set out to the countryside, over ghats, in search of some much rains, and see if the monsoons have arrived at the ghats. Disappointed to find, even after crossing 4 ghats and reaching Varandha ghats, there seems to be no sign of any. The conversations with shopkeepers and villagers on the way and back, there is a sense of despair and worry.
I can only hope the rain Gods show us some mercy.
P.S - The roads were in pretty bad shape and needed urgent repairs. Some portions have been relaid, but the majority of it still needs repairs.
