Six roaring Ducatis, seven days, and a relentless pursuit of the Western Ghats' most spectacular waterfalls during the monsoon.

The DOC Pune "Chase the Falls" ride was exactly what the name promised—a rain-soaked, adrenaline-fueled journey from Pune down to Coorg and back. We battled the frustrating highway diversions in Maharashtra before being welcomed by the smooth, sweeping tarmac of Karnataka. Guided by the sometimes questionable but always adventurous routing of Google Maps, we navigated village backroads, thrilling national parks, and endless stretches of highway.

The relentless monsoon rains were a constant companion, but the continuous banter over our Cardo intercoms kept our spirits high and the formation tight. By the time we navigated our mud-caked bikes back into Pune's chaotic traffic, we had chased down the majestic Gokak, the pristine Magod, the thunderous Jog, and the picturesque Abbey waterfalls, making this an unforgettable monsoon expedition.

Chasing the Roar (Days 1 & 2)

Our journey kicked off with a push from Pune to Hubbali, instantly reminding us of the stark contrast in state infrastructure. The frustrating highway diversions up to Kolhapur tested our patience, but crossing into Karnataka felt like unrolling a fresh red carpet of smooth tarmac. Our first prize was the majestic Gokak Falls, a sprawling, roaring cascade where our six Ducatis quickly stole the spotlight from the scenery. Thanks to Google Maps, our route to Hubbali detoured through some fascinating, time-saving village roads.

The second day ramped up the adventure as we pushed toward Agumbe. After a quick breakfast, the monsoon finally caught up with us. The slick, off-road trails leading to the pristine Magod Falls offered some unexpected thrills, but the beautiful, secluded cascades were worth every slip of the rear tire. Following a guided tour of the massive Linganamakki Dam and a heavy lunch, we rode into the mist to witness the thunderous Jog Falls—an absolutely mighty sight against the moody skies. The rains dogged us all the way to our hotel in Agumbe, leaving us soaked to the bone, though a few hardcore riders in our pack stubbornly claimed they weren't wet enough.

Through the Coffee Canopies (Days 3 to 5)

Leaving Agumbe, we placed our faith entirely in Google Maps, letting it dictate every twist and turn toward Coorg. This led us straight through Kudremukh National Park, a stretch of tarmac that served up a wild mix of excitement, fear, and anxiety. If anyone was nervous, you wouldn’t know it—the Cardo intercom was alive with hilarious, non-stop chatter that kept the tension at bay. We carved through perfect roads lined with towering trees and endless stretches of lush green tea and coffee plantations.

Pulling into our Coorg resort by late afternoon, the fatigue of three straight days in the saddle finally hit us. The rain came in patches, sparing us a full monsoon wash-out. The next two days were all about recovery. We took a lazy morning ride to the picturesque, cascading Abbey Falls, followed by some retail therapy in the local market. Evenings were spent lounging in the resort pool, where everyone confidently displayed their highly questionable, Olympic-level swimming talents. Before the return leg, we made sure to get the bikes washed—after days of road grime and rain, our Ducatis had entirely lost their showroom shine.

The Long Ride Home (Days 6 & 7)

The journey back demanded endurance. The Coorg to Belgavi stretch was our longest haul—a grueling 550 kilometers conquered in ten-and-a-half hours. The route was mostly highway, and thankfully, the pristine road conditions let us maintain a blistering pace. The rain poured relentlessly, ensuring we never saw a dry mile, but the Cardo kept the group tight and the mood light, turning completely unplanned food and fuel stops into spontaneous adventures.

The final morning in Belgavi started early under a heavy downpour. We were eager to finish the mission, relying on our traditional pit stop at Starbucks Kolhapur for that much-needed caffeine jolt to carry us home. Crossing back into Kolhapur brought a harsh reality check regarding the deteriorating road quality, sparking some heated debates over the comms. We said our final goodbyes at the last fuel stop before plunging into the treacherous Pune city traffic. Riding heavy with panniers and bags, covered in mud, we drew stares from every commuter we passed. It was chaotic, exhausting, and messy—but rolling into the driveway, home had never felt more welcoming.
